The Judicial Service Commission has approved an 11% increase in funding for court stations, raising their share of the judiciary budget to 81% starting the next financial year. This follows negotiations with Parliament that added KSh2 billion to the overall allocation, bringing the total to KSh18 billion.
Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi announced the decision at the annual Heads of Stations forum in Mombasa, emphasizing the need for courts to manage resources effectively. She highlighted the importance of implementing the Sustaining Judiciary Transformation (SJT) strategy while fostering collaboration with the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to expedite case processing.
Amadi urged station heads to prioritize transparency and leadership principles, stating, "Leadership is not about us but those around us." She also encouraged sharing technological innovations to improve judicial efficiency, a call echoed by Registrar of the Magistrates’ Courts Peter Mulwa, who stressed the role of technology in upholding public trust.
The five-day forum, themed "Going back to Basics in Strengthening and Sustaining Judiciary Transformation," brought together over 100 station heads to discuss implementation of the SJT plan.
