Members of a Nairobi family have accused the Kings Outreach Church, affiliated with Dr David Owuor, of exploiting their sister's financial resources and restricting her contact with relatives. The dispute centers on Jane Njagi, a former legal professional who the family claims was 'brainwashed' into transferring assets to the church.
At a Westlands residential complex on Rahpta Road, guards prevented family members from accessing Jane Njagi, claiming she was unavailable. Her sister Alice Macharia revealed that the church had kept Njagi isolated from news of their mother's passing, allowing only her brother Duncan to deliver the obituary after presenting a newspaper clipping.
A church representative, lawyer Kimani Watenga, stated Njagi had retired from her legal career to serve as a bishop, citing her son's recovery from dyslexia as a reason for her dedication. He claimed she voluntarily donated her Riverside Drive home for church activities, though the family disputes this, alleging the property was seized and converted into the church's headquarters.
Watenga denied the church's involvement in Njagi's personal assets, stating they would vacate any property if she requested. However, the family claims Lily Muthoni Macharia, a church member, was appointed as a director of Njagi's estate. Muthoni defended her actions, asserting she managed finances to protect Njagi from exploitation, though she emphasized she did so without compensation.
