Lightning struck St. Brigid's Nangwe Girls' School during evening studies, injuring 60 students on Sunday night. The attack followed heavy rainfall in the region, according to reports.
Principal Francisca Munyasia confirmed 50 students received treatment at Khalaba Medical Hospital and were later discharged, while 10 remained hospitalized in stable condition. She emphasized the school's lack of lightning arrestors, urging authorities to install the safety equipment.
"We acted swiftly to ensure immediate care for the students," Munyasia stated. "The incident occurred during remedial classes, highlighting the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades." The school has previously faced similar risks, with Musikoma Primary School reporting student injuries in a comparable event last year.
