Nyeri Senior Resident Magistrate Pauline Chesang was charged in March 2019 with the murder of her husband, attorney Robert Chesang, who died in Lukenya, Machakos County. The case involves four defendants, including two police officers, who appeared before Mavoko Principal Magistrate Elvis Mitheka.
The charge sheet alleges Chesang was shot multiple times by unidentified armed individuals while alone at his residence. No property was reported stolen from the scene, according to court documents.
Chesang remains in custody for nine more days as investigations into her alleged involvement continue. Her lawyer, Assa Nyakundi, requested bail to care for their two children, aged eight and five, arguing she is their sole guardian. The magistrate denied the application, citing the case's sensitivity and risk of evidence tampering.
Chesang's legal team also sought her release due to a severe asthmatic condition, but this request was rejected. She spent the night at Athi River Police Station after her arrest on Sunday, as reported in a 2019 court proceeding.
