The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has initiated a cashless payment system across its nationwide branches through a partnership with Safaricom. The move aims to enhance service efficiency and member convenience via automation and digital transformation.
"This platform will simplify contributions to NSSF," stated Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Gen. (Rtd) Dr. Julius Karangi. "We recognize the challenges ahead in fulfilling our expanded pension fund responsibilities and are committed to improving member experiences through upcoming initiatives."
The collaboration enables small employers with 20 or fewer staff to process employee contributions via M-PESA. This aligns with Kenya's growing reliance on mobile transactions, as evidenced by Central Bank data showing 90% of cashless payments in December 2018 occurred through mobile devices.
