The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has partnered with Safaricom to implement a cashless payment system across its nationwide branches, aiming to improve service efficiency and expand access for informal sector workers.
Under the initiative, NSSF members can now make contributions through M-PESA PayBill 333300 by entering their account number under the "Account Number" option. Employers with 20 or fewer employees can also process staff contributions via the platform by uploading payroll data to the NSSF portal and using a generated Unique Payment Number (UPN) for transactions.
Chairman of the NSSF Board of Trustees, Gen. (Rtd) Dr. Julius Karangi, emphasized the fund's commitment to modernizing member services. "The platform we are launching today will make contributing to NSSF easy and effortless. We are aware of the enormous task ahead in meeting public expectations as a pension fund and are striving to enhance the member experience through upcoming initiatives," he stated.
The fund has also introduced a self-service portal at www.nssf.or.ke and a mobile app for tracking contributions and new member registration. All return filings will now be conducted online, eliminating the need for physical visits.
Mobile payments dominate Kenya's cashless transactions, with 90% of such payments occurring via mobile devices as of December 2018, according to Central Bank data.
