Kenyans are increasingly turning to Google to check their Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) status as concerns grow over the risks of being blacklisted due to reliance on unsecured mobile loans.
February saw a surge in searches for 'How to check CRB status' and 'How to pay Tala loan,' reflecting financial stress among users. Other popular queries included NHIF payments via M-Pesa and methods to lose weight, highlighting broader economic and health anxieties.
The month also saw heightened interest in cultural trends, with Tanzanian hit 'Tetema' by Diamond Platnumz and Rayvanny ranking among top searches. Culinary queries like 'how to cook mandazi' and 'how to make pancakes' underscored everyday practical needs.
Political and social figures also dominated trends. Caroline Mwatha, a slain human rights activist, appeared in Google's top searches following her disappearance and subsequent death, drawing public attention to her case.
Global sports events and entertainment also featured prominently, with 'Chelsea vs. Manchester United' and 'Europa League' among the most searched topics. Meanwhile, searches for 'how to hack a phone' and 'how to create a website' revealed diverse user interests.
