A helicopter crash in Turkana on Sunday resulted in the deaths of pilot Captain Magonga and four other occupants, prompting public scrutiny over the aircraft's procurement funding.
The National Police Service confirmed the incident occurred at 8 p.m. near Central Island National Park in Lake Turkana, where all five individuals aboard the aircraft perished.
Captain Magonga, an ex-military pilot from Kisii County, was linked to local MP Richard Onyonka. The crash unfolded as two helicopters approached Lobolo Tented Camp, with one failing to land as planned.
Turkana County Deputy Commissioner Alexander Motivo stated that tourists intended to travel to Central Island on Monday but one aircraft disappeared without reaching Lobolo. The incident coincides with ongoing investigations into corruption allegations against Ruto’s associates.
