The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) has invalidated registrations for 370,429 students following allegations of fraudulent use of birth certificates in KCPE and KCSE exams. The Standard reported that parents and school officials allegedly colluded to submit false documentation for 2019 examinations, prompting the agency to block affected candidates from sitting tests unless verified records are provided.
Knec data revealed 1.78 million candidates registered for the 2019 exams, with 1,089,671 in primary and 698,935 in secondary levels. After validation, 342,916 KCPE and 28,713 KCSE registrations were canceled. Meru county had the highest number of affected students, while Marsabit recorded the fewest cases.
