Pokot South Member of Parliament David Pkosing has accused political elites of orchestrating corruption allegations in 2019 to undermine Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential campaign, framing the controversy as a strategic effort to block a grassroots candidate.
Speaking during a church service in Kapenguria in March 2019, Pkosing linked recent scrutiny of the Kimwarer Dam to a meeting between ODM leader Raila Odinga and Kanu Chairman Gideon Moi, alleging the discussion laid the groundwork for targeted accusations. He called for an investigation into the encounter, questioning why details of the meeting were publicly disclosed.
The lawmaker, a close ally of Ruto, argued that 2022 politics reflect a clash between entrenched power structures and ordinary citizens. 'Dynasties and the sons of the rich don't want a peasant or hustler to become president,' he stated, emphasizing the broader struggle between elite interests and populist aspirations.
Pkosing also criticized law enforcement agencies for politicization, claiming the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission prioritize activism over anti-graft work. He warned that without systemic reforms, national development would stagnate by 2024.
