Pokot South Member of Parliament David Pkosing has accused political dynasties of orchestrating corruption allegations to derail Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential campaign, framing the dispute as a broader struggle between entrenched elites and grassroots leaders.
Speaking during a church service in Kapenguria, Pkosing claimed that opposition figures are leveraging corruption claims to tarnish Ruto's reputation ahead of the 2022 elections. He specifically pointed to a 2019 meeting between ODM leader Raila Odinga and Kanu Chairman Gideon Moi as the origin of allegations surrounding the Kimwarer Dam project.
"The discussion about Kimwarer began at the hotel where the two met," Pkosing stated, urging the National Intelligence Service to investigate the encounter. He questioned the motives behind the meeting, asking, "What did they discuss and what were they planning? Why did they publish it?"
The MP argued that 2022 politics reflect a clash between wealthy elites and ordinary citizens, asserting that established political families seek to block candidates from humble backgrounds from ascending to power. "Dynasties and the sons of the rich don't want a peasant or hustler to become president," he said.
Pkosing also criticized law enforcement agencies for politicizing anti-corruption efforts, claiming the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission are engaging in activism rather than impartial investigations. "By the end of five years, we will not have developed our country," he warned.
