Police have arrested a retired senior officer in the investigation into the murder of Machakos lawyer Robert Chesang, who was killed on February 17. The suspect was taken into custody in Baragoi, Samburu County, on Saturday and transported to Nairobi the following day.
Investigators allege the former officer acted as an intermediary between Chesang's wife and the perpetrators. A serving police officer from Mutuine Police Post also surrendered voluntarily on Saturday, while another suspect remains at large.
DCI chief George Kinoti confirmed two additional individuals would face court charges. A sergeant from Riruta Police Station in Nairobi was detained after his vehicle was linked to the crime scene. The car had been spotted at Moke Gardens Estate three times prior to the murder, according to investigators.
The 45-year-old lawyer was found with three gunshot wounds near a window at his residence. Crime scene analysis revealed seven spent cartridges, with five recovered outside the house. A postmortem report indicated death resulted from hemorrhaging.
Authorities are reviewing phone records and surveillance footage from the estate and the National Police Service command center to trace the vehicle's movements. An 18-year-old suspect is also in custody for allegedly driving the vehicle on the day of the killing.
