Nyeri Senior Principal Magistrate Pauline Omungala has been arrested in connection with the February 17, 2019, murder of her husband, Robert Chesang, in Lukenya, Machakos County, according to police investigations.
Omungala, whose husband was shot during a daylight house raid, faces charges alongside three other suspects—two active-duty police officers and a retired officer—all currently in custody. The suspects will appear in court Monday for further proceedings.
Police allege the magistrate arranged for Sh181,000 to be paid to killers who targeted Chesang. A serving officer involved in the attack confessed to pulling the trigger, stating he was misled into believing Chesang was a criminal. The officer, who requested anonymity, confirmed the payment was made by a suspect in custody.
A senior police investigator revealed the murder stemmed from domestic tensions between Chesang and Omungala, exacerbated by property disputes that led to court cases. The magistrate allegedly felt humiliated by the legal proceedings, according to the officer.
Documents obtained by Nairobi News indicate the couple had a contentious marriage, with multiple court cases involving their property conflicts. The investigation continues as authorities seek extended detention for the suspects.
