Deputy President William Ruto's pilot, Captain Mario Magonga, died in a helicopter crash in Turkana County, with four Americans also killed. The incident occurred at Lobolo in Central Island National Park, according to police reports.
The National Police Service stated that two helicopters had landed at Lobolo Tented Camp earlier, but one managed to depart safely. Security personnel confirmed the presence of four Americans and the Kenyan pilot among the five individuals on board the crashed aircraft.
Search and rescue teams located the wreckage and Magonga's body early Monday, after the helicopter lost contact near Lake Turkana. Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, a relative of the deceased, confirmed the pilot was flying the aircraft when it disappeared from radar.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash. The police emphasized that details about the victims would be released after notifying next of kin.
