DCI detectives have detained a former and serving police officer in connection with the murder of city lawyer Robert Chesang, whose wife is now the prime suspect in the case.

The retired senior officer was taken into custody in Baragoi, Samburu County, on Saturday and transported to Nairobi the following day. Investigators allege he served as an intermediary between the victim’s wife and the perpetrators.

A serving officer from Mutuine Police Post also surrendered voluntarily on Saturday. The suspect, who had his firearm confiscated, is linked to the vehicle used to transport the killers to Chesang’s residence in Moke Gardens Estate, Machakos County.

Crime Scene Details

Chesang, 45, was fatally shot at noon on February 17. Two assailants reportedly subdued the security guard before entering the lawyer’s home. Police stated the victim was found with three chest wounds near a window, with postmortem reports citing hemorrhaging as the cause of death.

Crime scene investigators recovered seven spent cartridges, five of which were found outside the residence. An 18-year-old suspect, allegedly the driver of the vehicle on the day of the killing, is also in custody.

Investigation Progress

DCI chief George Kinoti confirmed two additional suspects would face court on Monday. Investigators are analyzing phone records, surveillance footage from Moke Estate, and communications from the National Police Service command center. The vehicle involved had been spotted at the estate three times prior to the murder.
