Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has rejected claims that his appointment as chair of the National Development Implementation and Communication Committee grants him excessive authority, stressing the position's focus on inter-ministerial coordination rather than hierarchical control.
In an interview, Matiang’i clarified the committee was established to streamline service delivery through collaboration, not to create divisions among Cabinet members. "This mechanism is meant to clarify, not confuse; to coordinate, not undermine," he said. "Its purpose is to promote collaboration across ministries, addressing administrative delays and policy implementation gaps."
The CS denied assertions that the committee functions as a "one-man show," noting its composition includes senior executive branch officials. "We operate without insecurity, recognizing each minister's unique expertise," he said. "The President's recent communique underscores the committee's collective nature."
Matiang’i also refuted reports of Cabinet tensions, citing consistent attendance at weekly meetings as evidence of unity. "Any perceived divisions stem from media sensationalism or political agendas," he said. "Our priority remains delivering services to Kenyans."
The CS emphasized his continued focus on the Ministry of Interior, stating he reports daily on its operations and remains accountable for its performance. He added that concerns about Cabinet rifts ahead of the 2022 elections are unfounded, attributing them to "media and political agendas."
