British engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce Holdings Plc has terminated its involvement in Turkey's TF-X fighter jet program, citing unresolved disagreements over intellectual property rights and the role of a Qatari-Turkish entity.
The decision follows failed negotiations with Kale Group, which had aimed to develop aircraft engines through a 2017 joint venture under a UK-Turkey defense agreement valued at over £100 million ($133 million). Disputes over technology sharing and third-party participation stalled progress, according to the company.
A Rolls-Royce spokesperson confirmed the withdrawal to Reuters, citing an inability to reach a compromise. Kale Group has not commented on the development, despite Turkish defense officials stating last year that international partners could still participate in the project.
The Financial Times first reported the breakdown in talks, which marks a significant setback for Turkey's efforts to establish an indigenous fifth-generation fighter jet capability.
