On July 27, 2019, two GSU officers, Samson Morongo Nesco and Stephen Mukangi, were manning Tower 2 at Wilson Airport when they were approached by two men in GSU uniform claiming to have a mechanical problem with a police vehicle.

According to investigators, as they walked towards the scene, two more officers emerged from a nearby bush and attacked them, taking away their two AK47 rifles loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition each.

Samson Morongo Nesco managed to escape with a gunshot wound to the leg, but his colleague was shot dead by the attackers.
