President Uhuru Kenyatta publicly reprimanded Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu during a funeral event, accusing them of undermining government priorities and political unity.
The clash unfolded at the funeral of Thayu Kamau in Kiharu Constituency, where Kenyatta left the ceremony when Nyoro addressed the crowd. The president returned after the MP concluded his remarks, later criticizing Nyoro for requesting Sh5 million in aid for Gitui Secondary School. "Account for the Sh100 million allocated in your National Government Constituency Development Funds instead of criss-crossing the country with endless meetings," Kenyatta said, according to witnesses.
Nyoro, aligned with Deputy President William Ruto's Tanga Tanga faction, faced direct criticism for allegedly defying directives to avoid 2022 election campaigning. The president also targeted Waititu, who had urged caution in anti-corruption efforts, referencing 2013 collaboration with Rift Valley communities. "Our people are in Rift Valley," Waititu stated, prompting Kenyatta to later scold him for "petty politics" after the burial.
Multiple MPs confirmed the president's anger, describing him as "very furious" during the exchange. Kenyatta reiterated his commitment to combating graft, warning that no one would be shielded from accountability.
