Tharaka Nithi County has witnessed a significant increase in revenue collection, rising from Sh79 million in the financial year 2016/2017 to Sh242 million in the financial year 2017/2018.
According to Governor Muthomi Njuki, the growth can be attributed to the digitisation of crucial revenue streams, which has led to a well-coordinated enforcement and effective supervision of revenue collection.
Speaking at the County Assembly, Governor Njuki stated that the collection had grown by more than 80 per cent in the past two financial years, making Tharaka Nithi one of the fastest growing counties in the country.
As reported in the Gross County Product (GCP) Report of 2019, Tharaka Nithi had recorded over 3.5 per cent growth in economic activities, placing it among the best counties in the country.
For the current financial year, the county government has allocated Sh20 million for the empowerment of coffee farmers and a similar amount for those engaging in tea farming.
Additionally, Governor Njuki has challenged the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to assist him in improving community health services, which includes the recruitment of 1,000 community health volunteers to monitor health status and create awareness.
These volunteers are attached to community health facilities where they make reports, enabling the county to succeed in community health mapping.
