EMBEZZLEMENT OF MILLIONS OF YOUTHS FUNDS IN BUNGOMA COUNTY

On July 31, 2019, the Western Youth Council issued a press statement exposing the embezzlement of 9 million shillings meant to empower the youths of Bungoma County.

The funds, budgeted to train 450 youths on how to access and do online jobs, were instead used as a 'cash cow and a scam' by some county officers to fleece public funds.

According to the Western Youth Council, only 50 youths were trained, and the rest of the money was pocketed by senior county officials. The training focused on basic online skills, such as opening Facebook accounts, YouTube channels, and Gmail accounts, which can be done without any training.

The council is demanding that Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and other county officials take full responsibility for the embezzlement and explain to the public where the rest of the funds went.

Failure to take necessary action will lead to youths across the county demanding prudent utilization of public funds until the EACC, DCI, and DPP intervene.
