On July 30, 2019, Dr. Pimple Popper, dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD, shared a throwback clip of one of her most memorable blackhead extractions on Instagram.
As seen in the brief video, Dr. Lee uses her signature comedone extractor tool to carefully remove several blackheads located all over a patient's nose.
Blackheads form when dead skin cells get stuck to the walls of the pores, causing them to be clogged. Unlike whiteheads, which are caused by oil and dead skin cells becoming trapped beneath the skin's surface, blackheads are formed when the trapped material is exposed to the air, leading to oxidation.
According to dermatologist Ken Howe, MD, factors such as stress and hormones can also play a role in the formation of blackheads, making good hygiene and regular skincare routines essential for prevention and treatment.
Dr. Lee praises her patient for being a 'trooper' for sticking it out during the procedure, highlighting the importance of patience and persistence in achieving clear skin.
