Manchester United Maintain Pre-Season Winning Streak with Late Goal ¶
Manchester United's pre-season winning run continued on Tuesday evening with a 1-0 victory over Norwegian outfit Kristiansund.
The win, which was United's fifth in five pre-season matches, came after a closely contested game in which both teams had their share of chances.
Manchester United dominated possession in the early stages of the game but were unable to break down Kristiansund's solid defense. The Norwegian side had their first chance to net the opener through Amidou Diop, but his strike in the 20th minute failed to hit the target.
The Red Devils were finding it tough to break down Kristiansund's defense, which adopted a more tactical approach to the game. However, Manchester United finally netted the winner in added time, with Juan Mata slotting home a spot-kick after he was fouled by Kristiansund's goalkeeper Andreas Vaikla in the box.
The win maintains Manchester United's pre-season winning streak ahead of their Premier League opener on Sunday, August 11, against Chelsea.
Manchester United made two changes in their starting XI with new arrivals David James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka listed. The Red Devils will now tackle AC Milan ahead of their Premier League opener.
