On July 30, 2019, Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker David Wachira submitted his resignation letter, citing personal reasons.

According to the letter, Mr. Wachira's resignation takes effect from August 15, 2019.

"I do hereby tender my resignation as Speaker of the County Assembly of Kirinyaga for personal reasons. My resignation takes effect from 15th August 2019," he said in the letter.

Mr. Wachira expressed gratitude to Governor Anne Waiguru, county assembly members, the Clerk of the County Assembly, and staff for their cooperation during his tenure.

When reached by Citizen Digital, Mr. Wachira declined to disclose the specific reason behind his resignation, stating it was personal.

However, he revealed that after leaving office, he would focus on his personal ventures, including his law firm.
