On August 2, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta will officially open a Sh750 million tannery and leather factory in Narok, a major development for the pastoral communities in the area.
The factory, constructed by Ewaso Ngiro South Development Authority (ensda) over the last three years, has a 4,000-ton capacity and is expected to create 300 direct jobs and over 5,000 indirect jobs.
Earlier this year, the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) team toured the factory and gave it a clean bill of health, expressing their satisfaction with the project's progress.
Area County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti hailed the project, urging local livestock keepers to take advantage of it to their benefit.
The factory is set to source raw products from across the country, and Commissioner Kimiti urged the Narok livestock keepers to be the leading suppliers.
