Stephen Githanda, the Speaker of Kirinyaga County Assembly, has resigned from his position, effective August 15, 2019.

According to a letter dated July 30, 2019, Githanda cited personal reasons for his decision to step down.

"I am writing to inform you of my resignation as the Speaker of Kirinyaga County Assembly due to personal reasons," Githanda wrote to Governor Ann Waiguru.

He will be replaced by a new speaker, and the county assembly has been asked to nominate a suitable candidate.
