July 30, 2019 - Motorists in Nairobi are facing a new wave of terror as the Mungiki sect makes a resurgence along Athi Road.

The group, known for its extortion and harassment tactics, has set up roadblocks and is demanding a fee of Sh 100 from each public service vehicle before it is allowed to pass through.

Failure to pay the fee results in unspecified consequences, with drivers being threatened by the group's members.

What's more alarming is that these incidents are happening in the presence of police officers, raising questions about their role in the situation.

The money demanded by the group ranges from Sh 50 to Sh 100, which allows motorists to use linking roads within Eastleigh to Eastlands.

The group's tactics have become increasingly bold, with members forcefully opening the doors of public transport vehicles and banging the windows of private cars to demand their cut.
