On July 30, 2019, Bomet Governor Dr. Joyce Laboso passed away in Nairobi at the age of 58.

Dr. Laboso had been undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since her return to the country on July 14, 2019, after a medical trip abroad.

She had left Kenya on May 29, 2019, after handing over duties to Deputy Governor Hillary Barchok, and spent six weeks at London's Royal Marden NHS Foundation Trust Hospital before being discharged to seek further treatment in India.

According to Bomet County director of communication Ezra Kirui, Dr. Laboso's doctors had recommended she get enough rest for a speedy recovery and advised limited visits.

“The governor’s doctors have recommended she get enough rest for a speedy recovery and advise limited visits,” Kirui said in a statement.

“She acknowledges the overwhelming goodwill messages and prayers as she responds to treatment,” Kirui added.
