Published on July 30, 2019, a study revealed the potential benefits of consuming chocolate and red wine in maintaining youthful appearance.

According to the research, compounds found in these foods, such as flavonoids, have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that can help rejuvenate old cells.

When cells age, their DNA strands lose protective telomeres, which are essential for cell division. The study found that applying compounds based on chemicals in red wine, dark chocolate, red grapes, and blueberries to cells in a laboratory setting resulted in the older cells starting to divide and having longer telomeres within hours.

The breakthrough has sparked hopes for the development of anti-ageing therapies.
