On July 30, 2019, DCI George Kinoti suggested that some of the contraband goods smuggled into the country might be contributing to the rising cancer cases.
Speaking at a meeting on combating contraband goods, Kinoti emphasized the need for the government to address all forms of smuggling.
"We have had many challenges. These diseases like cancer, why have they started increasing?" Kinoti said.
He added, "We have had goods that have been damaged but are being refurbished and brought into the country."
As the nation mourns the loss of several leaders who died of cancer, Kinoti called for the government to ensure that all entry points for contraband goods are sealed to prevent hazardous items from entering the country.
