On July 30, 2019, Oscar Sudi penned an open letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of waging a targeted campaign against Deputy President William Ruto's allies in the name of fighting corruption.
According to Sudi, Uhuru's crusade has been marred by selective targeting of individuals and communities, with the President allegedly shielding his own allies from prosecution.
One of the examples Sudi cited was the prosecution of Ken Tarus, a former Kenya Power official, over a transaction signed by Joseph Njoroge, a sitting PS. Sudi alleged that Uhuru had instructed investigators to expunge evidence that could implicate Njoroge, who is from Uhuru's home county.
Another case Sudi mentioned was that of Joe Sang, a former Kenya Pipeline official, who was prosecuted over a fuel jetty in Kisumu. Sudi claimed that Sang was merely implementing instructions from the board, chaired by John Ngumi, who is a close ally of Uhuru.
Furthermore, Sudi pointed out that advance payments were made for several dams, including Thwake in Makueni, Karumenu in Kiambu, Arror in Elgeiyo Marakwet, and Kimwarer in Elgeiyo Marakwet. However, no work has started on these projects, leading Sudi to suspect that Uhuru is selectively targeting Ruto's allies in the region.
Uhuru's office has not responded to Sudi's allegations, but the letter has sparked a heated debate about the President's motives in the fight against corruption.
