On July 30, 2019, a court of appeal stayed a decision to have Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o and his sister Risper Nyagoy arrested and jailed in a civil jail on grounds of contempt of court.
The ruling was made after the two applied against the rulings made by Justice Tripsisa Cherere on October 11, 2018, and July 23, 2019.
The case revolves around a family dispute over the administration of a Sh200 million family estate, with the two nephews, Kenneth Okuthe and Geoffrey Omondi, claiming they had been excluded from the list of beneficiaries.
The court had previously directed that the two nephews were entitled to be beneficiaries of the estate as well and had also appointed one of them as co-administrator after revoking the administrative letters that placed Nyong'o and Nyagoy as administrators of the estate.
The property under dispute includes flats on Jogoo Road in Nairobi, 100 acres of land in Miwani, and plots in Milimani, Tamu, East Rata, and Manyatta in Kisumu.
The case has now been set for October 3, and the two will not face jail time until their application can be heard.
