On July 30, 2019, the family of late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso finally confirmed that she had been battling cancer.
Speaking at Lee Funeral Home, Dr. Edwin Abonyo, her husband, explained that Laboso had suffered from the disease for a long time and had wished for her medical condition to remain private.
‘She actually suffered for a long time but we kept it under wraps. She did not want it to deter her duty and all the things that she was doing,’ Dr. Abonyo said.
According to medical files, Laboso was first diagnosed with cancer in 1991, but the disease went into remission until recently when her health deteriorated.
Laboso died while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital, where she had been admitted since July 14, 2019, after a medical trip abroad.
She had left the country for the United Kingdom on May 29, 2019, after handing over duties to Bomet Deputy Governor Hillary Barchok.
