Dr Joyce Laboso, the late Bomet governor, will be laid to rest in accordance with Luo culture, with her husband Edwin Abonyo confirming plans for her burial at their home in Koru, Kisumu County.

Speaking to Nation on Tuesday, Mr Abonyo revealed that the burial date would be announced soon.

“The burial will take place in Koru at a date to be announced soon,” Mr Abonyo told Nation on phone.

The decision aligns with the wishes of Luo elders, who expressed their desire for Dr Laboso to be buried at her husband's home in accordance with Luo customs.

Mr Ker Willis Otondi, chairman of the Luo council of elders, stated: “It is our wish that Dr Laboso is buried at her husband's home in Kisumu County as per the Luo culture.”

Local elders and villagers in Koru also supported the decision, citing cultural significance.

Mzee Silvanus Ojika, 73, emphasized that it would be against the community's culture to bury Dr Laboso's body in Bomet, where she worked as governor, instead of at her husband's home in Luoland.

“She was working in Bomet as a governor but married in Luoland. You cannot be buried at your workplace but at your husband's home,” Mr Ojika said.
