Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has added her voice to the growing campaign to legalize medical marijuana in Kenya.
On July 30, 2019, Passaris responded to a tweet from @DennisM666, who suggested it was time for the government to legalize medical marijuana.
"This is the time to legalize medical marijuana," tweeted @DennisM666.
Passaris seconded the motion, saying "I second."
The push to legalize marijuana in Kenya was first tabled in parliament by the late Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth in 2018.
Okoth had written to the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi to facilitate the preparation of the Marijuana Control Bill, which aimed to decriminalize the growth and use of the stimulant.
The draft bill proposed regulations for the safe use of marijuana, including the registration of growers, producers, manufacturers, and users.
Similar calls were made in 2017 by Mr Gwada Ogot from Siaya County, who petitioned the Senate, describing marijuana as "God's gift to mankind."
