On a typical evening, residents of Mathare's Ngei ward in Nairobi return home from work, only to find themselves at the mercy of a group of young thugs.
According to Police Officer Peter Kiema, the group, aged between 15 and 20 years, has been terrorizing residents using knives and homemade guns.
Speaking during a Public Baraza, Kiema revealed that the young criminals operate as early as 8PM, targeting residents who are coming home from work.
A women's group, Nyakinywa, which attended the baraza, urged the police to heighten patrols in the area to clear out the young criminals.
Chairlady Lucy Wanjiru pleaded with the OCS and OCPD to increase patrols in the area, saying, "We are pleading with the OCS and the OCPD to be on high patrol to see that this area is cleared of young criminals."
