Published on July 30, 2019, just 10 days before the start of the Kenyan Premier League season, Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay has requested a sabbatical, casting doubt on his future at the club.
The Cypriot coach has been offered permission by chairman Ambrose Rachier to travel to England to address some personal challenges.
However, sources close to the club suggest that Oktay's decision to leave might be linked to behind-the-scenes issues, including a pay dispute and lack of control over player transfers.
Assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo has been appointed to manage the team in the interim, with former Kenya international Dennis Oliech assisting him.
When asked about his return date, Oktay stated, 'Listen, I am in a situation where I cannot predict what will happen next. I will have to see what happens at home, and then talk to my club chairman, I need to clear my head too, have a break.'
