On July 30, 2019, Nyandarua County lost its oldest pupil, Mr Kagumo Chege, in a tragic road crash.
Mr Chege, 83, was a Class Seven pupil at Mucibau Primary School, where he had been studying since 2010.
According to the school's headteacher, Mr Kamau Mukono, Mr Chege was a role model to both pupils and teachers, known for his humility, good relationships, and exceptional knowledge in social studies, particularly on culture and Mau Mau related topics.
"Brother was a role model to our pupils and teachers. He counselled the pupils and teachers. He was also a good resource person in social studies especially on culture and Mau Mau related topics. He was very humble; he removed his cap and bowed when greeting teachers," said Mr Mukono.
Mr Chege's Mathematics teacher, Mr Peter Mwangi, described him as an active and ambitious person who always completed his homework on time.
"He would give himself additional homework and bring it to the staffroom for marking, then humbly request to be guided where he got it wrong," said Mr Mwangi.
Mr Chege's younger brother, Julius Njoroge, remembered him as a good friend and a uniting pillar for the family.
