July 30, 2019, marked a significant shift in the Kenyan music industry, with new-age musicians emerging as a force to be reckoned with. Established artists like Octopizzo and Khaligraph Jones are finding it increasingly difficult to compete with the younger generation.
Both Octopizzo and Khaligraph were once at the forefront of the Kenyan music scene, releasing street music that resonated with the ordinary person. However, with the rise of new-age artists, they have struggled to adapt and maintain their fanbase.
Octopizzo, in particular, has changed his style significantly, veering off from his traditional Sheng-infused music. Khaligraph, on the other hand, has stayed the course, but even he has been forced to pay homage to the new-age movement, as seen in his song 'Leave Me Alone.'
As the saying goes, 'if you can't beat them, join them.' It remains to be seen whether Octopizzo and Khaligraph can survive the new-age music revolution, or if they will be left behind in the dust.
