On July 29, 2019, Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso passed away at a Nairobi hospital after a long battle with cancer. Her husband, Edwin Abonyo, has requested that the public be patient and allow the family some time to grieve before announcing the date of her burial.
According to Abonyo, Laboso had been suffering from cancer for a long time but had not disclosed her condition to the public. She continued to work diligently, not wanting her illness to interfere with her duties as governor.
"We can say she had been suffering for a long time, but she did not disclose it. She did not want her condition to interfere with her work. She was a brave and good person. We ask for some time to mourn," Abonyo said in an interview at the Nairobi hospital.
Laboso was married according to the customs of the Luo community, and her husband has requested that she be buried in their ancestral home in Fort Tenan, Koru Sub-County, Kisumu County.
Abonyo has also asked the public to be calm and patient, allowing the family some time to grieve before announcing the date of her burial.
"We know she was a good person, but we ask for some time to mourn," Abonyo said.
