On July 29, 2019, Herve Renard, the former Morocco coach, announced his new role as the head coach of Saudi Arabia's national team.
Renard, who led Zambia to a surprise African Cup of Nations title in 2012, expressed his excitement about the new opportunity, saying, "Happy to start a new adventure in Saudi Arabia on a new continent."
With a rich coaching experience in Africa and Europe, Renard has coached the national teams of Angola, Ivory Coast, and Morocco, as well as clubs in France, England, Algeria, and Vietnam.
Yasser Almisehal, the boss of the Saudi Football Federation, confirmed the appointment, stating, "the choice was made on a great name, capable of bringing something extra to Saudi football".
