On July 30, 2019, Paris Saint-Germain announced the signing of Idrissa Gana Gueye from Everton, with the midfielder penning a four-year deal until June 30, 2023.
According to the French club, Gueye had already jetted to Paris on July 28, 2019, before undergoing a medical and finalizing the lucrative deal.
Everton boss Marco Silva had attempted to convince Gueye to stay at the club, but the Senegalese midfielder was reportedly too good an opportunity to turn down.
Gueye joined Everton in the summer of 2016 from Aston Villa, where he had a £7.2m buy-out clause in his contract.
At the time of his move to Paris Saint-Germain, Gueye had made a significant impact in the Premier League, with OptaJoe records showing he made more tackles (395) and interceptions (218) than any other player.
He had also impressed during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, helping Senegal reach the finals where they eventually lost to Algeria to claim the silver medal.
