Dr. Joyce Laboso's final days were marked by a courageous acceptance of her fate. Just eight days before her passing, she had requested to be discharged from the Nairobi Hospital, telling her doctor, 'I want to go rest at home.'
According to reports, Laboso had been in and out of hospitals in London, India, and Nairobi in the past two months, battling a long-standing cancer diagnosis. Despite her deteriorating health, she remained strong, and her family opted to keep her condition private, not wanting it to affect her service delivery to the people of Bomet County.
Laboso's husband, Edwin Abonyo, revealed that she had suffered for a long time but had kept her health struggles under wraps. 'She actually suffered for a long time but we kept it under wraps. She did not want it to deter her duty and all the things that she was doing,' he said.
Laboso's cancer diagnosis dated back to 1991, but she had been in remission until recently. Doctors noted that the cancer had spread throughout her body, and she had been undergoing treatment in London and India before her final days in Nairobi.
