July 30, 2019 - The Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek has made a significant move into the budget gaming market with the launch of its new Helio G90 series of chipsets.

The Helio G90 and Helio G90T chipsets combine eight Cortex-A55 and Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.05GHz with a Mali-G76 GPU, which is also used in the Exynos 9820-powered Samsung Galaxy S10 family.

The Cortex-A76 core, which is also found in the Kirin 980 chipset that powers the Huawei Mate 20 and P30 families, is the first from ARM to adopt the 7nm technology.

The maximum RAM supported by both Helio G90 series chipsets is 10GB (LPDDR4x), and as far as photography goes, a single 64MP main camera or a dual-lens 16MP and 24MP set up.

The Helio G90 chipsets come with a suite of AI features MediaTek calls HyperEngine Game Technology, which will improve your overall gaming experience. There's also something called rapid response engine that does away with any touch lag when gaming. HDR10 support is also on board.

Gaming phones are a new niche that hasn't taken off in Kenya, but with the launch of the Helio G90 series, MediaTek is hoping to change that.
