Deputy President William Ruto made headlines on July 29, 2019, after hosting Mukami Kimathi, the widow of freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi, at his office in Karen, Nairobi.

According to a tweet by DP Ruto, the visit was a chance to celebrate heroes and their commitment to the cause of Kenya's independence.

DP Ruto shared photos of the meeting on Twitter, captioning them: 'Pleased to host Mukami Kimathi, widow of freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi, at my office in Karen, Nairobi County.'

Kimathi was the commander of the Mau Mau rebellion in the 1950s and played a significant role in Kenya's fight for independence.

However, his life was cut short when he was betrayed by two African native policemen and arrested, leading to his execution in 1957.

Despite his untimely death, Kimathi is remembered as a hero by many Kenyans, and his widow's visit to DP Ruto's office was seen as a way to honor his legacy.
