Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso has succumbed to colon cancer, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to her constituents.

Laboso, who was first elected as an MP to represent Sotik Constituency in a by-election held on September 25, 2008, was a trailblazer in the male-dominated field of politics.

She succeeded her sister, Lorna Laboso, who died in a plane crash, and went on to become the first-ever female to be voted as the Bomet County governor in 2017.

Laboso's husband, Edwin Abonyo, a former manager with Finlays, was by her side throughout her political journey. The couple had three children together.

DP William Ruto eulogized the governor, saying she exemplified the strength of a woman: gentle yet firm, intense, hardworking, resilient, and pragmatic.

Laboso will be remembered for her commitment to championing peace and harmonious relationships among all communities, as well as her impartiality and shrewdness in moderating parliamentary debate.

Condolences have been pouring in for the family, friends, and people of Bomet County.
