On July 12, a shocking video emerged of a man being hacked to death with a machete in Khayega market, Shinyalu constituency. The attacker, identified as Francis Muse Liseche, alias Moi, was later arrested, along with 25 others, including the acting chief of the area.

The Interior Ministry condemned the incident and noted that the suspects were among 26 individuals arrested in connection with the murder. The suspects also include the owner of the crude weapon used in the murder.

CS Fred Matiang'i stated that the chief was in close proximity to the scene of the crime and failed to take any administrative action. The government has launched a security operation in Kakamega to flush out criminal elements following a wave of killings in Matungu constituency.

Four suspects, Francis Liseche, Agapitus Ingosi, Evans Ashimudu, and Reuben Shitambasi, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Hezel Wandere on Monday and will remain in police custody for two weeks.

CS Matiang'i declared that it will no longer be business as usual in Khayega and reminded residents not to take the law into their own hands. He emphasized that it's every patriotic Kenyan's duty to support the government's criminal justice reforms.
