July 30, 2019 - Media personality Fredrick Omondi, alias Buda Boss, has taken Vivo Energy Kenya to court over their use of his popular tagline 'Budaboss'.

Omondi, who coined the stage name during his stint on the satirical comedy show 'Hapa Kule News' in 2013, claims Vivo Energy's use of the tagline is deliberate and intended to deceive the market.

According to court documents, Omondi's lawyer, Ms Kimeto, argues that Vivo Energy's choice of a tagline that closely resembles her client's is not coincidental.

Ms Kimeto claims that Vivo Energy's use of 'Budaboss' is calculated to confuse the market into believing that Omondi has endorsed their products or that the two are in a joint venture, which is not the case.

On July 24, Lady Justice Grace Nzioka directed Vivo Energy to respond to the allegations within 21 days, with the case set to be heard on September 19.
