By-elections for Embakasi South and Ugenya Constituencies are currently underway, but the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has acknowledged a major hitch in Ugenya Constituency. The commission's KIEMS kits have failed in a number of polling stations, causing disruptions in the voting process.

According to the ODM Party, the affected polling stations in West Ugenya include Nyaharwa, Hafumbre, and Miyare, while those in Ukwala are Jera and Yenga. In East Ugenya, the affected polling stations are Usinda and Komoro.

Responding to the issue, IEBC stated that its ICT team is on the ground to resolve the problem. The commission has also announced that the closing time in the affected polling stations will be extended to recover the lost time.

IEBC's Kenya Integrated Management System (KIMS) is used to electronically identify voters through its automated poll book, the Electronic Voter Identification (EVID) system. The system identifies voters biometrically and aims to curb impersonation during the voting exercise.
