On June 30, 2019, Danson Chetambe, a former Zoo midfielder, was awarded the KPL player of the month for May/June.
Chetambe's impressive performance, which included scoring five goals in nine matches, played a significant role in helping Zoo maintain their Kenyan Premier League status last season.
He has since joined Sportpesa Shield champions Bandari, where he is expected to be a key player ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup assignment.
Chetambe expressed his gratitude for the award, stating, 'I am so pleased to win this award. It was a tough month for us (Zoo) because we were fighting relegation. I’m honoured that my effort has been recognised today though not with Zoo but now at Bandari.'
He also expressed his hopes for the upcoming season, saying, 'I hope to carry on the good performance with Bandari and help the team win titles this season.'
Other contenders for the award included Tusker's Boniface Muchiri, David Majak, and Ulinzi Stars striker Enosh Ochieng.
